I passed this lovely sycamore many times walking in my neighborhood.  Seeing one huge branch lying on the ground one day, I decided to paint the other beautiful, twisty branch before it, too, met a similar fate.  While I stood there painting a gentleman came by and told me he used to let his children ride on that branch like a horse.  I thought of the years that strong tree had weathered.  At the time, my own grown child was quite ill and needed the strength of a mighty tree...that is what gave me the idea of placing the delicate bird among the branches.

This delightful golden was ready for anything when I asked him if I could snap his photo. I could have sworn he really did "Speak!"

Sometimes (well, many times) things will continue to bother me about a painting that is supposedly "finished".  Such was the case with my painting, "Destination".  Finally, I decided to re-work the irksome details and develop the rocks and water that I probably had rushed to finish for a show. Whether it is better or not, I don't know, but for now I am happier, and it is re-christened, "Big Island Morning Walk".

I thought I "blogged" this already, but since  I am a new blogger, I see I didn't push the save button.  This painting defies the category label.  Is it a still life? a landscape? a wild life? plein air, since it was painted outside? I guess I'll call it a "pleinwildscapelife" and this time, I'll push save!

I was honored that guest juror, Leslie Morgan, of San Francisco, chose this piece as a First Place winner in the Los Gatos Art Association's Member Show in November, 2015.
